The society carried out a consultation on ways to improve the housing market which has seen unprecedented challenges along with changing customer expectations and rising anti-money laundering requirements, since the global economic downturn.
One of the key suggestions was to improve the existing conveyancing protocol by introducing new accreditation protocols. Respondents were however, skeptical about a proposal to allow conveyancing solicitors to become real-estate agents which is likely to affect the credibility of advice offered to clients.
A top Law Society official was quoted by Yeovil Express as saying: “The professional integrity and legal skills which solicitors traditionally bring to the housing market are just as key now as they have always been and probably more important than ever. Also the profession’s unique ability to embrace change means that our traditional values can be used to bring improvements to the process.”
